Building an IDP Using Lego Principles

Building an IDP (Internal Development Platform) is what every DevOps/Platform engineer does - even without intending to explicitly. The organization’s processes, architecture, and culture are strongly coupled with the internal platform that is built and designed from the ground up. Based on our experience with many companies, we want to share which principles to use in order to create your platform using Lego principles, thinking about each technology choice in a modular and composable way that can help you make the right decisions at the right technical intersections.

We’ll wrap up with a real-world example using common OSS tooling so you can see this applied from theory to practice with Backstage, Helm/Kubernetes, and Grafana for visibility. You’ll go away with a better plan for building your own stack-specific IDP for your engineering organization.

Talk will be delivered in English.

Elevating Developer Efficiency with Developer Portal

As platform engineers our goal is to empower developers by simplifying complex workflows and enabling self-service capabilities. In this session, we will share how our team designed and implemented a developer portal using Port. We will explore how we crafted our golden paths, providing developers with clear, automated workflows for deploying services to production while accessing real-time deployment metrics and insights. Additionally, we will discuss how these paths streamline testing environment management with built-in FinOps transparency.

The session will highlight the technical backbone of these capabilities, including the use of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and Env0) for blueprint management and the seamless integration of diverse tools into a unified developer experience. This session will also address the challenges we encountered while implementing the developer portal, such as aligning with diverse team requirements, driving adoption, and managing technical complexities.

From Chaos to Clarity: Reducing Context Switching & Unplanned Work Through Platform Engineering

Join us for actionable strategies to reduce chaos, foster collaboration, and enhance the developer experience.

In fast-paced R&D environments, unstructured requests, constant interruptions, and dependency bottlenecks can cripple developer productivity and infrastructure stability. At Yotpo, we embraced a platform-first strategy to tackle these challenges head-on. By leveraging data-driven experiments, integrating self-service solutions, and streamlining workflows, we reduced DevOps requests by 50%, improved developer focus, and significantly accelerated our R&D velocity.

This talk offers a deep dive into how we built scalable, developer-centric solutions using tools like Backstage, enjo.ai, and Jira. We’ll share lessons learned, including stories on successes and failures, and discuss how self-service platforms can empower R&D teams while enabling Platform Engineers to focus on critical infrastructure development.

From Friction to Adoption: Hacking Human Psychology for Platform Success

You’ve launched your first Platform! Hooray! But adoption is slow, and early adopters are frustrated and pushing back on onboarding. The platform is too strict, or the outcome isn’t production grade, or worst of all - your users are just “not smart enough” to use it.

Well, it’s only partially you - Years of evolution taught us how to avoid lions in the Savana through psychological biases and heuristics which have now evolved to help you avoid Platforms in Tech corporates.

Through my personal experience with early adopting organizational platforms, you’ll learn how we can make the onboarding process as easy and painless as possible.

How to Create a Platform People Want to Use, Not Have To

Platform or Infrastructure in many companies are a synonym for bureaucracy and red tape: it's something the R&D have to use, isn't really grounded with reality and always comes with loads of ego. We've completely reversed the balance of power: The R&D can CHOOSE whether or not they work with the platform groups and use their infrastructure.

In this talk we'll describe how we shifted the way our platform teams work, how we measure ourselves, what's our mode of operation and how eventually even though they don't have to, the vast majority of the R&D chooses to use us and come to us for joint work.

The IaC Tooling Multiverse and the Future of Platform Engineering

With Infrastructure as Code becoming the de facto way we manage our infrastructure today, a lot of excellent tools have become widely adopted that each have a different set of strengths. In this talk we'd like to take a look at the evolution of the IaC landscape over the past decade, and how it impacts platform engineering directly.

We'll examine some of the biggest Ops challenges - DevOps / SRE with an emphasis on Platform engineering, through the lens of IaC including disaster recovery, security, cost, performance and even where complexity factors in when choosing your tooling of choice.

While many of us have already chosen our tooling, we may also like to consider migration and integration of multiple tools for different use cases and stacks. In this interactive talk, we'll allow you to decide which tools we explore - from CDK to Pulumi, Terraform, OpenTofu, Helm, ArgoCD to learn about how they stack up versus modern cloud native challenges for platform teams.

Put On Your Product Hat When Championing an Internal Tool

You might tell yourself that integrating an internal tool or platform into the day-to-day work of your colleagues will be easy. After all, you know how developers work - you are one. But this is a pitfall, teams don't tend to adopt tools easily. Changing habits is a hard task. That's why you gotta stop thinking like a developer and put on your Product Manager hat. Yup buddy, that's a product in your hands and you must treat your colleagues as potential clients.

In this lecture I'll discuss the reasoning and dos & don'ts when introducing an internal development tool to your peers.
